PMTA's Celebration of Music event gives students an opportunity to perform solo repertoire in a recital setting and be adjudicated.  All participants will receive certificates, and students awarded "Superior with Distinction" or "Superior" will receive trophies and cash awards upon availability.  Students awarded "Honorable Mention" will receive cash awards upon availability.  All award winners are invited to perform in the Winner's Recital.

Students' times and places will be announced after registration.

Adjudication takes place Saturday, April 9, and the Winners Recital and Awards Ceremony will be held April 10 at 2:00 pm, both dates at Steinway of Phoenix.


Eligibility:

Teachers and students must abide by the Guidelines for the Celebration of Music. Noncompliance will result in disqualification. Student entered must have studied with the current teacher at least three (3) months prior to the event. Teachers may enter any number of students. Chairperson(s) may enter students.


Repertoire Guidelines:

If a student has received a gold medal in the Fall Festival, the student may not use the same repertoire for Celebration of Music. Repertoire cannot be changed after registration. Each movement of a sonatina or sonata is considered one solo. WTC Preludes and Fugues by J.S Bach must be considered as one piece (they cannot be played separately). Variations - the entire set of variations is considered one piece (no cuts). Only original compositions by composers of renown are acceptable. Contemporary American composers such as Alexander or Rollin are acceptable for each division. No simplified versions will be acceptable.


Nonrefundable Registration Fees:

  • $18 for Lower Elementary
  • $20 for Upper Elementary
  • $20 for Junior High
  • $22 for Senior High

Entries must be postmarked by March 19, 2011 to be accepted.
